My Dad always said....
"The list of things I know for certain is much, much shorter that the things I don't!" So for those of you that don't know Arizona's Sonoran Desert is the only home for the Saguaro Cactus. The Saguaro is the tallest of the cacti and it only grows below 3000 ft.
The Saguaro's bloom in late spring and then in the Summer the blooms become these red buds of sorts.
What I didn't know is that there is an ancient tradition of the Native Indian's making jam from the Saguaro's fruit. It's supposed to be delicious but sadly I can't find any place that sells it. If you know of anyone who sells it please let me know. I have found plenty of recipes but.... You can read the whole fascinating history HERE.
As luck would have it, I'm off to my watercolor class and guess what we're painting today? Cactus
Flowers!
I would love to say these are mine but these belong to my very talented instructor, Yvonne Joyner. Mine needs work!!!! If you would like to take one of Yvonne's Water Color Classes please visit: https://www.sonoranartsleague.org/
